PD–East Bay September Events
The lazy days of summer are over. It's time to get active!
We need your help!
Because PD–East Bay has a full schedule of important events this September we have decided to cancel our September general meeting.
Instead we need volunteers for the following.....
-
Sunday, September 10: Solano Stroll
Easy and fun–We need a few more volunteers to staff our booth for two hour shifts at the Stroll on Sunday Sept 10 from 11 to 5. You're welcome to help us staff the table or just to relieve others; we'll have literature about the PD–East Bay and about the candidates and issues we support for the November election.

-
Saturday, September 16: Precinct Walking
Help elect progressive candidates this November. PD–East Bay folks will be canvassing in two places on Saturday Sept 16:
Walk precincts in Berkeley for City Council candidates or mayoral candidate Zelda Bronstein
To volunteer, contact Sara Shumer (510) 526-4632
-
Walk with the Defenders of Wildlife to defeat Richard Pombo in CD-11. They are having a BBQ first and then a precinct walk in the late afternoon.
For details, including arranging car pools, contact Jody Ginsberg (510) 636-4149
-
Saturday, September 30, 3-5pm: We are sponsoring a major "Take Back the House" fundraiser at the Albatross Pub in Berkeley
Meet Jerry Mcnerney, Pete McCloskey and others. Live music!
We need everyone to attend this important event! Help us spread the word.
Call if you would like to help with publicity, putting up flyers, or volunteering the day of the event.

Hope to see all of you at least one or twice in September.

Universal Health Care (SB 840) Need Your Help for the Final Push
THIS IS A HISTORIC MOMENT!
Sheila Kuehl's Senate Bill 840 will be voted on next week by the full Assembly and the Senate. It offers universal, high quality, affordable health care for all Californians. (For more information on SB840: The California Health Insurance Reliability Act. The Lewin Group Report details the enormous dollar savings.)
Go, if you can, to Sacramento on Monday, August 28 for the press conference or on Wednesday, August 30 for the Senate vote. If you are interested in attending, please call Jim Forsyth to reserve a seat on the Van. His number is 510-581-5169. Or form carpools of your own.
At the very least, email, write, fax or phone the Governor to preempt a potential veto. Phone 916-445-2841, Fax 916-445-4633

THIS IS AN EXTRAORDINARY OPPORTUNITY!
Bloggers Needed for Proposition 89 – The Clean Money and Fair Elections Initiative
An email from our friend, Lynn Davidson, of the California Clean Money Campaign.
She is encouraging us to get the message out on Proposition 89 via the blogosphere. Blogs have proven to be a quite effective tool for alternative communications. We encourage you to find out more about using this tool, and helping out the Prop 89 campaign as well.
Dear Friends Who Think About Politics Some of the Time or All of the Time:
I am writing you personally in the hopes of getting you to contribute your writing skills over the next couple of months to clean up California politics in a big way. The Clean Money and Fair Elections initiative – Prop 89 – is on the November ballot, and one of the campaign's strategies is to use the blogosphere to get a loud buzz going about Prop 89.
So I want to encourage all of my friends who write well and easily to join us in this effort and put your skills to work where you can really make a difference.
If you are ready to use your writing skills to help restore democracy, first in California and then in the rest of the nation, please contact me.
