PD–East Bay General Meeting for Sat, May 6
We Can Take Back Congress. . . One Congressperson at a Time
Meet Congressional candidate Jerry McNerney at the Progressive Democrats of the East Bay General Meeting on Saturday, May 6. He is running for Congress in CA-11 (Dublin, Pleasanton, Tracy, Stockton, Livermore) against House Resources chairman, Richard Pombo.
Jerry, a renewal energy specialist, has a unique plan to revitalize San Joaquin county by making it a hub for alternative energy innovation. However, in order to challenge Pombo in November, Jerry must first win the Democratic Party primary on June 6. Meet this outstanding candidate and find out what you can do to help. Saying No to Pombo politics starts right now!
Jerry will talk about his campaign and answer any questions you have about taking back Congress in '06. Following this discussion, we will let you now what you can do to help take back the House of Representatives. We will reserve time for individual training to enable you to participate in this important congressional election.

The promise of America
If there's one thing we've always believed in America, it's that the future will always be better. And for many of us, for many generations, it's been true.
The current administration and Congress have chosen an irresponsible path for our nation that puts many things we cherish at risk. By allowing arrogance, corruption and cronyism in our government, they are imperiling the values of our democratic society.
Locally, Richard Pombo's misplaced priorities, moral irresponsibility and arrogance have led him to ignore the needs of his own district.
My commitment to you:
- Integrity
- Honesty
- Accountability
These values are what we have always expected from our elected officials and its time that they be restored to the 11th congressional district.
—Jerry McNerney

A Lecture With Author Mark Crispin Miller (Thu, May 4)
How the Right Stole the Election in 2004 How They Will Steal It Again
Mark Crispin Miller, author of "Fooled Again: How the Right Stole the Election in 2004 and Will Steal It Again," will discuss the election fraud of November 2004 and measures we can take to prevent it from happening again.
When: Thu, May 4 at 7:00pm
Where: Grand Lake Theater, 3200 Grand Lake Avenue, Oakland
Tickets $10
Box office: (510) 452-3556
This event is sponsored by Democracy Action, Project Bluebridge, Progressive Democrats of the East Bay, Hammering the Issues, and others.
Mark Crispin Miller argues that the outcome of the 2004 election, in many states including Ohio, was manipulated to favor George Bush and the Republican party.
Imagine a country, somewhere in the Americas. Suppose it holds a presidential election in which government officials actively suppress registration of voters likely to support the opposition party; provide plentiful voting machines in precincts favoring the incumbent but few or unreliable ones in precincts favoring the opposition; refuse to allow international observers or journalists to monitor the voting; and manipulate the vote count until it is at odds with every known pre-election poll.
Operatives loosely associated with the ruling party cruise through the cities and countryside, threatening poor voters with arrest if they try to vote and spreading disinformation about the date of the voting and the correct polling places.
The government official charged with certifying the accuracy of the vote is also the head of the incumbent's re-election campaign. The ruling party pulls off an upset victory. Is it legitimate?
Now give the country a name. Call it Ohio. Or call it Florida, or New Mexico, or Nevada.
