If You Only Have Time To Do One Thing...

Action Needed to Stop Diebold from Taking Over Our Elections (Act Now!)

We have precious little time to stop Diebold from taking over our elections in California. Please take the time to do one or more of the actions listed below to help prevent Diebold from taking over our elections. These actions should be taken NOW.

These actions are from the California Election Protection Network. Refer to their website (www.califelectprotect.net/home.html) for background information and details on the actions:

  1. Provide public commentary on Monday, November 28

The California Secretary of State’s office will “accept” public comment on the certification of the Diebold TSx touchscreen voting machine only until Monday, November 28th.

Tell Secretary of State Bruce McPherson (Rep) we demand an extension of the HAVA Deadlines and a rejection of Diebold equipment. Send him the CEPN “Seven Reasons” to reject Diebold. Cite the letter written to Congress by the National Association of Counties. Details on this action are here.

Recommended: FAX: 916 653-3214 Paper gets a LOT more attention.

    Call: (916) 653-6814 - press 6, then 3......

Least effective: email your comments to elections@ss.ca.gov
  2. Contact your local, state and DC Representative, ROVs, and County Supervisors.

Tell them you require their attention to this situation, or WE ALL LOSE.

If you don‘t know your assemblyperson or California Senate Representative, look them up at: http://www.assembly.ca.gov/acs/acsframeset9text.htm

Contact your local county supervisor. Look them up in the White Pages of your telephone directory, or just “google” your county and “board of Supervisors”. If your Registrar of Voters (ROV) is appointed, they are responsible to the County Board of Supervisors. And they are responsible to you.

  3. Contact EVERY media outlet you can, DEMAND coverage of McPherson‘s machinations. BE OUTRAGED!! BE OUTRAGEOUS!

Details on this action can be found here.

  4. Activate the grassroots and netroots: tell your family, friends and neighbors

Expand your circle of influence: inform and arm ten of your fellow citizens with the information and tools provided here. Enlist their aid in protecting California election security.

Details on this action can be found here.

National Day of Counter-Recruitment (Tue, Dec 6)

Campus Anti-War Network (CAN) is mobilizing around the country to show the federal government that they cannot intimidate schools for kicking out military recruiters.

On December 6, the Supreme Court will hear FAIR v Rumsfeld, the case that will decide whether the government can constitutionally cut off federal funding from schools that have decided that recruiters violate their unequal employer policies. This day symbolizes the growing resistance to war and military recruitment. It is also the one-year anniversary of Pablo Paredes refusing to board his ship to Iraq, sparking a national campaign that displayed the growing refusal of soldiers to fight this war.

The same day that the Supreme Court will be hearing the FAIR v Rumsfeld case, students from over 40 college and high school campuses will gather at recruiting stations in San Francisco, Seattle, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, NYC, and other locations to shut down operations and to send a message to the government that we will not be cowed. Meanwhile, a press conference and demonstration will take place outside the court.

The action also comes amid increasing revelations of the horror of the Iraq occupation, including recent video footage of US chemical weapon use in Fallujah and the increasing strength of the counter-recruitment movement. Sixty percent of San Francisco voters just voted to oppose military recruiters in their schools and support scholarships to counteract the poverty draft.

This call should not be limited to CAN or even to students. We are looking for co-sponsors for this day of action. Help us counter the Military's ability to wage its illegal war and to support a university's right to oppose recruiters.

Say No to the Solomon Amendment, COLLEGE NOT COMBAT — TROOPS OUT NOW!! If you are planning on participating in or sponsoring the day of action, email recruitersout@yahoo.com and check out the CAN website at www.campusantiwar.net.

Bring the movement for COLLEGE NOT COMBAT to your city or school!!!!
