Impeach Bush-Cheney

“We believe that the greatest need of our nation is to redirect the resources of our government from destruction to creation, from war to peace, from military spending to social spending, from sickness to health, from selfish desires to universal needs. The future of humanity and our planet are at stake.”   -www.pdamerica.org

Stop the Consolidation of the Cable Industry (Act Now!)

The FCC may allow the three largest cable companies to control up to 90 percent of the cable TV and broadband market in the United States.

Cable costs are growing at more than five times the rate of inflation. But giant cable companies are not content to merely gouge you. As they control access to more American homes, big cable will have final say over the shows and channels you can watch.

In the future, video, telephone and Internet services will all be provided via the same "pipes." Giants like Comcast and Time Warner – which are poised to get even bigger if the FCC approves their takeover of Adelphia – are positioning themselves to be the ultimate gatekeepers of the media you are allowed to access and create.

If you're fed up with constant cable rate hikes, poor service, and a lack of local and independent programming, the FCC needs to hear from you! – Join Free Press and tell the FCC not to give more monopoly control to cable giants.

The FCC needs to hear from you. Act now to stop the consolidation of the cable industry.

Expand and Support Low Power FM Radio (Write FCC by Mon, Aug 8)

Low Power FM (LPFM) radio stations are popping up all across the United States. Thanks to the activism and support of Democracy Now! listeners, along with organizers for social/economic/environmental justice, schools, churches, and media reform, over 600 groups across the country have their own not-for-profit community radio stations. LPFM stations broadcast local news, public affairs, and music – as well as national and international programming like Democracy Now!.

On July 7th, the FCC released a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking asking a number of important questions about the future of the Low Power FM (LPFM) radio service. This is the most important opportunity for you to comment on the direction of LPFM since the service was implemented 5 years ago. If you act today, you can help expand LPFM to reach your community!

Join Prometheus Radio and write the FCC to show your support of Low Power FM radio.

Shield Journalists and Whistleblowers (Sign Petition)

The Supreme Court recently refused to hear a case that could imprison two reporters for refusing to reveal their anonymous sources to a federal prosecutor.

The decision casts a chill over investigative reporters, whistleblowers and the public's need to know about government wrongdoing – information that would not see the light of day without laws to shield journalists and their sources.

Sign the Free Press petition to support federal shield laws (S.340 and H.R.581) protecting journalists and their confidential sources.

Clear Channel SF Hires Tsunami Song Producer (Oppose Racism in the Media)

This Spring, infamous Producer Rick Delgado was fired from HOT 97 in New York for writing and airing an explicitly anti-Asian and deeply racist song about tsunami victims. The song, with lyrics as follows, sparked a national outcry from civil rights and community groups.

"Screaming Chinks," "Africans Drowning," "Little Chinamen"

Now Clear Channel has hired Delgado to produce the morning show at local station Wild 94.9 FM in the Bay Area. He started work this past week.

Two years ago, when Michael Savage was fired from MSNBC for his virulently racist and anti-gay remarks, guess who then picked him up? Clear Channel's 910 KNEW in the Bay Area!

Stand up against hate and racism on our publicly-owned airwaves. Tell Clear Channel this is unacceptable to our community and that we demand greater media accountability.
