Petition for an International Conference for Israeli-Palestinian Peace
We, the undersigned organizations and individuals, hereby petition the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate to pass a binding and concurrent resolution as follows:
WHEREAS all people have the inherent and legal right to live and raise their children with respect, dignity, self-determination, and security, and
WHEREAS the Israeli and Palestinian people have been living in the midst of conflict and war, which has brought dispossession, death, misery, insecurity, and fear to the people of the region, and
WHEREAS the human and material costs of this conflict have been borne by the peoples of the region and the international community, including the United States of America, and
WHEREAS this conflict has increased the dangers of other regional conflicts and of wider confrontation within the international community, including the United States of America, and
WHEREAS the United States of America has exercised substantial power and influence in the region for many years, and
WHEREAS the people of the United States of America call upon their government to use that power and influence to promote peace, justice, and reconciliation in the region,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Congress of the United States of America directs the Executive to take immediate and effective action to convene an international Middle East peace conference including all affected parties, to address, negotiate, and resolve the issues of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in accordance with international law. This conference shall be carried out in a manner that recognizes the dignity and rights of all peoples of the region, enabling them to have self-determination, security, and the opportunity for meaningful economic development, thereby creating the conditions for a just peace.
